Buenos Aires nach Puerto Madryn/Peninsula Valdez

Nach dem Stress vom Freitag, als mein Portemonnaie geklaut wurde, hatte ich
am Samstag noch ein gemuetliches Fruehstueck mit ein paar Freunden, bevor es dann Abends endlich aus Buenos Aires in die Natur ging. Die Fahrt im Bus (Don Otto) war sehr angenehm, hatte schon fast ein Bett zum liegen/sitzen und der Service war auch nicht schlecht. Nach 17 Stunden bin ich dann in Puerto Madryn angekommen. Die Temperatur war viel hoeher als ich erwartet hatte und so kam ich schon mal ins Schwitzen, mein Rucksack ist etwas schwerer als er aussieht... nachdem ich mich im Hostel einquartiert hatte, erkundigte ich die Stadt. Diese kam mir vor wie eine Geisterstadt. Kein Mensch auf den Strassen...am Abend wusste ich dann auch wieso. Boca (einer der Fussballmannschaften von Buenos Aires) hatte ein wichtiges Spiel, und somit waren alle vor dem Fernseher. Boca gewann und dann war der Teufel los! Feuerwerk, Hup-Konzert...

Am naechsten Tag unternahm ich einen Ausflug auf die Peninsula Valdez, ein
Naturschutzgebiet. Super schoene Natur, keine Touris um diese Jahreszeit,
ein paar wenige Pinguine, Seeloewen und Seehunde, Voegel, Armadillos und
Guanacos.

Ushuaia

Um 11Uhr morgens des naechsten Tages ging es dann schon wieder weiter
Richtung Sueden. Ueber Comodoro, Rio Gallegos, Chile (vier mal
Passkontrolle!!), Rio Grande kam ich endlich nach 32 Stunden in Ushuaia an.

Im Bus hatte ich Bekanntschaft mit einem Australier (Paul) gemacht. Die naechsten
zwei Tage unternahmen wir Ausfluege um und in Ushuaia. Ein Traum, das Ende
der Welt, wer haette gedacht, dass es hier so schoen ist! Das Wetter ist
auch nicht so kalt, wie ich gedacht hatte. Wir machten eine Bootstour, wo
wir viele Seeloewen und Seehunde sowie Cormorane sahen. Der suedlichste
Leuchtturm (wurde in einem Buch von Jules Verne festgehalten) durfte
natuerlich auch nicht fehlen. Abends endlich wieder mal selber gekocht, mal
Gemuese! Am naechsten Tag haben wir morgens einen Ausflug mit Pferden
gemacht! Grandios, ich bin mir vorgekommen wie ein Cowboy, oder wie man sie
hier nennt, Gaucho. Durch Waelder, Fluesse, Suempfe, und am Meer haben wir die Pferde vom Dreck befreit.

Nachmittags sind wir dann in den "Tierra del Fuego" Nationalpark. Man kann
dort verschiedene Wanderungen machen, jenach Zeit, laenge und Schwierigkeit.
Ein herrliches Naturschutzgebiet. Im Sommer genial zum Zelten, aber jetzt waere es schon etwas zu kalt gewesen. Am Abend gab es wieder mal ein Asado, organisiert vom Hostel. Das Hostel Abra Ushuaia war super! 16 Pesos (ca. CHF 8) inkl. Fruehstueck!

Paul, der Australier, "verliess" mich dann am Samstag und ich verbrachte
noch zwei ruhige Tage in Ushuaia.

El Calafate/El Chalten

Am Montag 15. Mai hatte ich einen Flug von Ushuaia nach Rio Gallegos gebucht, war fast gleich teuer wie der Bus, viel bequemer, viel schneller! Weiter nach El Calafate ging es dann wieder per Bus, nur 4 Stunden und geteerte Strasse. Die Busfahrt hatte was ganz spezielles. Es gab Momente, wo die Zeit still zu stehen schien... Der Anblick der Natur war fantastisch! Die Sonne blinzelte durch die Wolken und liess den See unten im Tal golden schimmern. In der Ferne konnte man die schneebedeckten Bergspitzen erkennen. Der Wind schaukelte den 2-stoeckigen Bus hin und her. Ein Bild zum Traeumen...

In El Calafate eingecheckt, habe ich beschlossen am naechsten Tag erstmal nach El Chalten weiterzufahren. Morgens um 7 Uhr gings los, nach 4 Stunden Holperbusfahrt kamen wir in El Chalten an. Das Dorf hat ca. 800 Einwohner und liegt am Fusse der beruehmten Berge Fitz Roy und Cerro Torre. Bei schoenem Wetter ein unbeschreibliches Bild. Leider hatten wir am ersten Tag nicht so viel Glueck. Schnee, Wind und Nebel. Wir machten eine kleine Wanderung zu einem idyllischen Wasserfall. Ueber Nacht hat es dann ca. 20-40 cm Neuschnee gegeben und das Wetter war wie im Bilderbuch. Wir standen frueh auf und machten uns fuer eine etwas groessere Wanderung/Bergtour bereit. Unsere Gruppe bestand aus 3 Franzosen, 2 Argentinier (Martin und Rodrigo), 1 Englaender (Ian), 1 Neu Seelaender und mich. Wir stapften durch den Schnee und suchten teilweise nach dem Weg, schauten uns das traumhafte Panorama an, Berge, Gletscher, Seen... an einem Punkt hatte sich der Weg verlohren und wir waren somit auch etwas verlohren... aber nachdem wir einigermassen heil durch ein Sumpfgebiet "gestolpert" und ueber einen Bach gesprungen sind, haben wir dann den richtigen Weg wieder gefunden. Nach 6 Stunden sind wir alle wieder heil in El Chalten angekommen. Es war ein fantastischer, unvergesslicher Tag!! um 17Uhr sind wir dann wieder zurueck nach El Calafate gefahren und haben uns zur Feier des Tages ein "Bife de Lomo" gegoennt!

Natuerlich besucht man den Perito Moreno-Gletscher wenn man in El Calafate ist. Unglaublich, soviel Eis auf einen Haufen habe ich noch nie gesehen. Sehr eindruecklich und wenn man dann noch mit etwas Glueck einen Eissturtz miterleben kann, ist der Tag gemacht!

Bariloche

Mit dem Bus ging es dann mitten in der Nacht (3uhr) weiter nach Bariloche. Ian wollte auch nach Bariloche, so hatte ich eine nette Begleitung. Die laengste Bustour fuer mich bis jetzt, 34 Stunden! Aber auch eine der schoensten bis jetzt. Die Natur ist super schoen hier. Gleicht der Schweiz... darum heisst diese Region im Volksmund ja auch "argentinische Schweiz".

Am ersten Tag machten wir den "Circuito Chico" mit dem oeffentlichen Bus, welcher unteranderem zum Dorf "Colonia Suiza" fuert. wie der Name schon verraeht, wurde dieses Dorf vor ca. 150 Jahren von Schweizern gegruendet. Heute erinnert aber beinahe nichts mehr an die Schweiz. Den Rueckweg haben wir dann zu Fuss gemacht. Abends haben wir im Restaurant Albertos gegessen. Beste Adresse fuer ein Stueck Fleisch!!

Montag, 22. Mai, mieteten wir ein Auto und fuhren Richtung San Martin de los Andes. 2 Sued Afrikaner begleiteten uns. Zu viert in einem Fiat Uno ueber Stock und Stein, und sogar ueber Schnee, was fuer die zwei Sued Afrikaner sehr aufregend war! Die Route heisst "Ruta de los 7 lagos" und fuehrt an diversen Seen und Waelder vorbei, durch drei verschiedene National Parks. Die Strasse ist fuer etwa 140 KM nicht geteert, somit etwas holprig, vorallem mit einem Fiat UNO. Wir hatten das Glueck und konnten 2 Hirsche bei einem Kampf beobachten. Nach unsere Rueckkehr hatten wir neue Zimmernachbarn, es waren die zwei Argentinier Martin und Rodrigo von El Calafate/El Chalten. Man trifft sich immer wieder...und da Ian am naechsten Tag zurueck nach Buenos Aires ging, hatte ich wieder zwei nette Begleiter! Abends waren wir im Restaurant "Casita Suiza" essen. Das Restaurant gehoert Schweizern und die kommen aus Davos...

Die Tage danach waren etwas langweilig, 3 Tage viel Regen, wenig gemacht. Bei schlechtem Wetter ist es nicht so Aufregend hier in Bariloche. Am Freitag haben wir wieder ein Auto gemietet (3 Argentinische Machos und ich). Es ging wieder in den Nationalpark, mit diesmal Villa Traful als Ziel! Villa Traful liegt an einem grossen See und ist auch nur ueber eine Schotterstrasse erreichbar. Da der Herbst kraeftig Einzug gehalten hat, konnten wir die Waelder in den schoensten Herbstfarben sehen.

Samstag Bilderbuchwetter: Habe mich auf den Weg nach Villa Catedral, naechstgelegene Skigebiet von Bariloche aus, gemacht. Ca. in einem Monat sollte Saisoneroeffnung sein. Schnee hat es noch weit und breit keinen und das Dorf befindet sich noch mitten in den Renovationen. Die Sessellifte sehen nicht gerade einladent aus, aber ich denke da sind wir von der Schweiz einfach zu verwoehnt!

Vielleicht fragt ihr euch, wieso ich soviel Zeit hier in Bariloche verbracht habe. Das frage ich mich auch, nein, ich musste auf meine Kreditkarten warten, welche mir von Buenos Aires zugeschickt wurden. Und da ich mich hier in einem Sued Amerikanischen Land befinde, dauert halt alles etwas laenger...Viel Geduld ist hier angesagt... Heute sind sie dann endlich eingetroffen und somit mache ich mich morgen auf den Weg nach Chile. Naechstes Ziel ist Puerto Montt und dann Chiloe.

Buenos Aires to Puerto Madryn/Peninsula Valdez

After the stress on friday, i had a nice brunch with my friends
before i left Buenos Aires. the trip on the bus was very comfortable, i
almost had a bed to sleep and the service on board was also very good.
after 17 hours i arrived in Puerto Madryn. the temperature was not as cold
as i thought it would be. so after i reached the hostel i was all sweaty.
my bagpack is heavier as i thought... after i checked in at the hostel, i
walked around the city. the city looked like a ghost-city, nobody on the
streets... later on i had the answer. Boca (football team from Buenos
Aires) had a very important game, so everybody was sitting infront of the
TV. Boca won, and the whole city went crazy!

on the following day i booked a tour to Peninsual Valdez, a nature protected area. very nice nature, no
tourists at this time of the year. i saw some pinguines, sea lions, seals,
birds, armadillos and guanacos.

Ushuaia

at 11am on the next day i already continued my trip further south. Comodoro, Rio Gallegos, into Chile (4 times passport control!!), Rio Grande and finally after 32 hours Ushuaia. in the bus i met an australian guy and i spend some time with him in and around Ushuaia. it's a dream, the end of the world! i didn't think, that it's going to be so great! and once more, it wasn't as cold as i thought. we made a boot-trip, where we saw lots of sea lions, seals and cormoranes. and of course we saw the most southern lighthouse. at night we cooked some vegetables as a variety to all the meat.

next day we went horseriding. i felt like a cowboy, or as they say here, a Gaucho. we went through woods, rivers, swamps and at the ocean we washed the horses from the mud. in the afternoon we went to "Tierra del Fuego" Nationalpark. there you can do different walks in time, length and difficulty. marvellous nature protected area. in the summer time you can camp there very good, but for this time of the year...would have been a bit cold...at night the hostel organized a asado and we had a good time eating, drinking, singing...Paul "left" me on Saturday and i spend some quiet days in Ushuaia.

El Calafate/El Chalten

on Monday, 15th of May, i booked a flight out of Ushuaia to Rio Gallegos. almost the same price as with the bus, but much more comfortable and much faster! from there i took the bus to El Calafate, only 4 hours. After i ckecked in at the hostel in El Calafate, i decided to continue the next day to El Chalten. at 7am we started and after 4 hours bumpy road we arrived in El Chalten. only about 800 people are living there and the town is surrounded with the famous mountains "Fitz Roy" and "Cerro Torre". unfortunately we didn't have much luck with the weather the first day. snow, wind and fog. we did a little hike to a nice waterfall.

over night it snowed about 20 to 40 cm! and the next day was just perfect weather! we got up early and got ready for a longer hike. in our group were 3 french, 2 argentines (Martin and Rodrigo), 1 english guy (Ian), 1 Kiwi and me. we stumped through the snow and were looking for the path. there was a gorgeous panorama, mountains, glacier, lakes... at one point we couldn'd finde the path anymore so we were a bit lost. we strumbled over a swamp area and jumped over a river, we all made it safely to the other side. and finally we found the path again. after 6 hours we returned totally happy to El Chalten. it was a fantastic day to remember for ever. at 5pm we took the bus back to El Calafate. we ended the perfect day with a perfect dinner with "bife de lomo".

Of course you have to visit the Perito Moreno-glacier when you are in El Calafate. incredibly!! i never saw so much ice at one spot! very impressive and when you have luck and see some ice crash, then your day is made!

Bariloche

my travel went further by bus at 3am to Bariloche. Ian also plend on going to Bariloche, so we traveld together and i had nice company. the longest
bustour till now for me, 34 hours!! but it was also one of the nicest. the
nature is very nice here, looks very similar to Switzerland... that's why
this region is also called "the argentinien switzerland".

the first day we went with the public bus to do the "circuito chico", it takes you to a little town called "Colonia Suiza". as the name already tells you, was the town found by swiss people over a 150 years ago but these days not much remembers of Switzerland. the way back we hiked and passed some beautiful scenery. dinner we had in the famous restaurant "Albertos" where i ate the best meat till now.

Monday, 22nd of May, we rented a car and drove towards San Martin de los Andes. 2 guys from south africa joined us. 4 people in a Fiat Uno over rough and smooth and over snow, that was very exciting! the route is called "ruta de los 7 lagos" and goes along lakes (of course!), woods and mountains. it crosses 3 different national parks! the steet is not paved for over 140 km, so it's a bit bumpy especially with a Fiat Uno. on the way we had luck and could watch 2 deers fighting. after our returne to Bariloche, Ian and me had 2 new room mates. Martin and Rodrigo from El Calafate/El Chalten. you always meet again. Ian left the following morning back to Buenos Aires, so it was nice to have these 2 guys for company!

3 boring days followed, lots of rain, didn't do much.

Friday we rented again a car (3 argentine machos and me). we went again through the national parks and passed bye a town called "Villa Traful". it's located on a big lake and you can only reach it over a unpaved road. fall took over the woods and we could see some very nice colours. Saturday i went up to Villa Catedral, the closest skiarea from Bariloche. in about a mount should be opening of the season, but there is no snow and they are still renovating the town. the chairlift doesn't look to comfortable but i guess we are just to spoiled in Switzerland!

the boys convinced me for a kayak-trip! so i ended up 3 hours in a kayak with freezing toes! no, so cold was it not, but floor heating wouldn't have been bad...

maybe your asking your self, why i'm spending so much time in Bariloche. well i asked me that question as well! but the reason is, that i was waiting for my credit cards which would be send over from Buenos Aires. but as i am in a country of south america, all takes a bit longer. finally
they arrived today, so tomorrow i take of to Chile, Puerto Montt, Chiloe.

so, meine zeit hier in buenos aires geht zu ende und ich werde mit
meiner "richtigen reisen" beginnen.

die vier wochen vergingen wie im fluge! es wurde mir auch nie langweilig.
natuerlich seit ihr neugierig was ich alles erlebt habe, oder? hier ein paar
highlights...

das nachtleben, wie bereits schon erwaehnt, faengt hier relativ spaeht an.
somit machten wir uns um 2am auf den weg in die disco "opera bay". wie es
der name bereits verraeht, sieht das gebaeude aus, wie das opernhaus in
sydney. es ist eines der groessten discos mit ca. 6 verschieden dance-floors
(wenn ich richtig gezaehlt habe...) als wir um 6 uhr morgens nach hause
gingen, waren wir definitiv nicht die letzten!

natuerlich darf man bei einem Buenos Aires-besuch "el barrio" (stadtteil)
San Telmo nicht missen. es wimmelt da von antiquitaeten und an jedem ecken
hoert man tango musik. am sonntag ist jeweils auch ein markt, welcher sich
durch das ganze barrio zieht. wir habe eine "british-bar" gefunden, wo man
auch mal was anderes als Fleisch, Pizza und Empanadas kriegt. vorallem hat
man mal was gewuerztes zwischen den zaehnen.

Matee und dulce di leche, darauf sind die argentinier ziemlich stolz! darum
wurde es uns bei einem schulabend auch naeher gebracht. "tomar matee" ist
eine alte tradition des teetrinkens. sicherlich haben die meisten schon
davon gehoert, darum werde ich euch jetzt die seitenlange erklaerung
erspahren. von dulce di leche kennen vielleicht nicht alle. es ist ein mix
aus milch, zucker und vanillezucker, welches stundenlang erhitzt und
geruehrt wird. schlussendlich wird es zu einer braeunlicher paste und man
findet es in, um, ueber allen suesswaren!!

stellt euch vor, ich war in einer balletvorstellung!! das teatro colon
bietet dafuer den perfekten schauplatz! und natuerlich war ich auch noch in
einer tango show im "Café Tortoni", eines der aeltesten cafe-haeuser von
buenos aires.

ein "estancia"-besuch durfte natuerlich bei einem touristenprogramm auch
nicht fehlen. und dieses erlebnis war wirklich sehr touristisch!! unter
einer estancia kann man sich in etwa einen bauernhof vorstellen. es war aber
alles kuenstlich erstellt, darum nicht wuerklich interessant. aber das essen
war gut (fleisch, fleisch, fleisch) und die show mit den pferden auch nicht
schlecht!

an der schule gab es auch noch eine weindegustation, nach der am naechsten
tag die haelfte der schueler nicht zum unterricht erschienen sind (ich
natuerlich schon!).

wo lernt man am besten einheimische kennen, natuerlich bei einer
privatparty. zum glueck hat carlo diverse freunde welche auch wieder diverse
freunde haben. und so wird man dann zu einem privaten "asado" (grill-fest)
eingeladen. natuerlich gab es wieder mal genug fleisch. also ich denke, wenn
ich wieder zurueck in der schweiz bin, und ihr mich zum grillieren einlaedt,
muesst ihr euch was einfallen lassen!

und auch mein letzter tag war aufregend in buenos aires!! ich habe mein
geldbeutel mit allen kreditcarten und ausweise verlohren! zum glueck aber
nicht mein pass... so, es bleibt spannend! aber das haette jetzt nicht mehr
sein muessen...

morgen werde ich in einen bus richtung patagonien einsteigen. mein erster
stop ist "Peninsula Valdez" (nach 18 stunden), wo ich hoffentlich ein paar
pinguien und seeloewen sehen werde... dann wird die reise weiter richtung
Ushuaia gehen, am suedlichsten punkt von argentinien.

my stay in Buenos Aires is coming to an end and my "real traveling" begins.

the four weeks past by so fast! i never got bored and of course you all want
to know what i did in the last 3 weeks. well, here are some highlights...

the nightlife, as already mentioned, starts very late. so when we went to
the disco at 2am, it was still very early. the name of the disco is "opera
bay", and as the name already reveals, it looks like the opera from sydney.
it's one of the biggest discos and has about 6 different dancefloors. when
we left at 6am we were definitely not the last once.

when you visit Buenos Aires you can certainly not miss a visit to "el
barrio" (district) San Telmo. there you find antiquities and on every corner
you hear tango musik. sundays they have a market and people are dancing on
the streets. there we also found a british-bar, were we finally found
something else to eat except of meat, pizza and empanadas. and we finally
had something spicey food...

imagine, i went to sea a ballet at the "teatro colon"! it was realy great!
and ofcourse i also went to a tango show at "cafe tortoni", one of the
oldest cofe-shops of buenos aires.

and ofcourse a visit to a "estancia" coulnd be missing for a tourist. and it
was really very touristy. a "estancia" is like a farm but all was just set
up for the tourists, so it wasn't that interesting! but the food and the
horse-show were really good!

at school we also had a wine degustation, with argentinien wines! muy bien!!
except the next day some students didn't show up! i did ofcourse!

where do meet the most locals, ofcourse at a privat party. good luck Carlo
know some, and they know aswell some...and that's how you get a invitation
to a "asado" (BBQ). meat, meat, meat!!! when i go back to switzerland, my
friends have to think about someting!!

and also my last day stays exciting in buenos aires. i lost/got stolen my
purse including credit cards. so i was running around all day but i still
will leave tomorrow. my journey will go on. i'll take the bus down south to
Patagonia, first stop Peninsula Valdez after 18 hours. then i will go
further down south to Ushuaia, more south is not possible...
